bovine predictions

growing up, we lived across the brook from a dairy farm. early on we learned that cows lie down when it is about to rain. here, we see a herd of indecisive cows, some up and some down - and i guess they collectively were right in their weather predication. even though it was humid and overcast and the skies threatened the entire after-noon, it never did rain.

Our cows love to lie down in between milkings and feedings.....eat, sleep, relax & milk :)

The Wife of a Dairyman ~ Nancy : wait a minute - you mean cows laying down doesn't have anything to do with rain?? oh, the things parents tell their kids....

Thanks for the info. Does that mean our Dutch cows should be lying down most of the time?

Ok, I was so excited to have a way to predict rain until wife of a dairyman, nancy spoke up. Can I still use it, so I can look like I'm a great naturalist able to predict the weather with cows?

My early childhood was spent in dairy cattle country and we were always told that cows lie down when its going to rain - later on I observed exactly what Nancy says!
Maybe nobody told the cows...
