first flowers

every spring, these crocuses are a surprise. they're right in the middle of the lawn and i swear i didn't plant them there. how they materialized remains a mystery but i sure do love to see them come back year after year after year.

Squirrels. I plant bulbs in one spot, and in the Spring, the fun is waiting to see where the squirrels moved them to :)

Beautiful; my favourite colour.

We planted a few white autumn crocus a few years ago - now we have hundreds of them (mostly in the area we planted).

What a lovely suprise! Now, if I went and planted these suprises in MY front lawn, they wouldn't exactly be suprises anymore, now would they!

I have tulips, just a few, on the edge of my garden every spring. They come early and are usually burnt out by late June. Who knows who planted them. I could add more, but that seems wrong for some reason.

Where I live there are vast fields of wild daffodils that will begin to bloom next week, if this warm weather holds.

A few years back we pulled some out by their bulbs. Now they've become little bunches of sunshine in our own corner of the world!

What a beautiful shot of deep purple crocusr... and, reflecting for a sec about "surprise" - maybe after all this doesn't necessearily have to do with something we are unaware of, or unprepared to... maybe it has to do precisely with the recurrence of phenomena that we like, enjoy await and hug, each time they get out of our sight just in order to catch our attention anew the next time they pop up in the neighborhood... And as the thought's sinking in, I'm wondering: would it also apply to the people in our lives? Would it?

you all may be right about the squirrels. goodness knows they are around. and i am finding some oddly placed daffodil plants in the middle of the lawn too after planting bulbs along the perimeter last fall. i too love the purple color of these crocus and particularly like the way the natural light plays off them. Lynne: would love to see your autumn crocus, they must be beautiful at a time when all else is dying. Janie B: i think we have too much snow here for them to bloom through! B.E.T & Diamond: glad you like the shot. i love to hold the camera down on the ground and shoot. penz: would love to have sunflowers like you. Allison: cannot imagine daffodils growing wild. it must be beautiful!

thank you all for your visit and your comments.

I do genealogy, I wondered if perhaps there may be a grave there from long past and the flowers were planted there? I sure think that is a beautiful photo! Thank you for sharing it.
