fun with food
somewhere on the internet, probably on a blog (one of yours?), i read about carrot flowers. so easy to make: just cut wedges all around the length of a carrot before slicing. they added a festive spring touch to the easter dinner table. much prettier than the carrot pennies i usually serve. lest you think the wedge parts of the carrots will be wasted, they'll go into the pea soup i'll make from the easter ham bone in a day or two. pea soup is an old easter tradition around here. and carrot flowers is a brand new one!

Love these - so pretty! At Christmas, I make pine cone roast potatoes in a very similar fashion ... my children think I'm certifiable! x
Love that idea - i will use that next year!
cool idea. . .
Love them! I'll start cooking carrots like that-and maybe my toddlers will then eat them! ;)
Very cute - the one in the forefront (right) almmost looks like a smiley face!
You are my Martha Stewart!
i adore carrots...and will def do these...carrots and asparagus...yum...
I'd eat my vegetables if they looked like that!
That is adorable. I love this!
A good idea and maybe will motivate my grandchildren to eat more veggies.
I love those carrot flowers. Love!
I usually combine carrots with a green veggie or a yellow one so that they'd look appealing , and yummy. kids can have a way with their food, and leave out the carrots.
That is an awesome idea, had never heard of that..
adorable!! i'm totally going to try this. :)
that's a great idea! It's nice to see such care being taken over the presentation of food.
Imagine being served up flower carrots at a dinner party! How delighted I would be!

How wonderful. What a great idea. Thanks for sharing.
looks so preety and different :)
I am clumsy with knives so I bought some carrot cutters. They are like cookie cutters only you can use them for vegies! I got them from a Japanese store really cheap.
Heavens2Betsy: i sure would like the directions for those pine cone roast potatoes! i bet others would too.
isn't food more fun to eat when it's pretty? hmm, i wonder if i could make carrot snowflakes for christmas...
thanks for your comments!
That's really cool! I am going to have to try that! Thanks!
These exact carrots are what turned my girlies into soup eaters... One day Miso soup, the next its FLOWER SOUP, poof, magic! We make them with all sorts of other rooty veggies too...
Excellent - I'll definitely do this tonight!
Mmmmmm... not only do they look beautiful but carrots are delicious too! I should try that for my toddler, maybe he'll be more excited about eating his vegetables!
