Irene: i did turn off word verification for a few weeks. immediately i started getting a few spam messages a day. but the number kept going up and up - and then the spam started getting nasty, vulgar. it was awful - so i turned word verification back on. it seems i may have lost some commenters and i feel badly about that. but i really felt like i needed more control with what was coming into my account. i hope you understand...
