time for mums

normally i don't buy chrysanthemums this early. but i couldn't bypass this vibrant color, new to me, and was afraid if i waited, it would be gone. so bring on fall. i have mums and i'm ready.

i am sorry, chris; i love your thoughts and gorgeous photographs...but i HATE mums. or, really, i hate the fact that it's time for mums...pooh. bring back summer, please....and violets and forget-me-nots...

I just bought mums too, and usually don't this early. :)
Didn't want to look at the sad fried, dead pansies anymore (too much heat and sun and not enough love from me!)...
The ones you posted are gorgeous!

That is a beautiful color! I've been thinking about mums lately, too.

That's a very lovely color. I can see why you like them so much. They are my least favorite flower because they remind me of funerals. Everybody has an odd distaste for something, don't they?

susan t. landry and Nora: mums are far from my favorite - i love anything that flowers in spring! but i like mums because, by now, most of my perennials have gone by. mums just give a few more weeks of color until the drabness of late fall. Betsy, i know what you mean about pansies. i have so enjoyed mine. i'm hoping cooler fall weather might give them one more short spurt of flowering. Linda Chapman, i cannot keep mums from year to year - wish i could! i have one small leggy plant that flowers much too late in the season. and Janie B, you and i are probably thinking about mums because we're both back to school - and that means fall to teachers!

beautiful!!!

but what are mums?

CrazyCris: mums is short for chrysanthemums. a very popular fall flower in new england - they look great in seasonal arrangements of pumpkins, dried cornstalks, and other fall harvest crops!
