wrong color, wrong season, wrong holiday!

see that spindly contraption of pastel pipe cleaners? i found it today on display at one of my favorite shops. it's an easter tree. an easter tree, for cryin' out loud!! the store even had little egg ornaments to hang from it, in addition to the easter baskets and bunnies and books. this christmas crossover is just too bizarre for me. decorate eggs at easter, yes - but not trees! is no tradition sacred? and what will they think of next??

Since St. Patricks Day is next week, I guess all the green decorations should be on clearance or moved back to storage for next year.

Love how we celebrate a month in advance :)

I have never even heard of an easter tree...weird I agree with you!

I'm with you on the merchants trying to make a buck on sacred days. Eggs sort of have a symbolic value--candy, rabbits and trees to commemorate the resurrection of Our Lord...puleeeze!

This is a little obsessive and scary, I know, but my mom does a MUCH larger version for Valentine's Day!

They want to tell you to decorate what ever you will as long as it makes you spend more money. It's all about money and making products that will make you spend it. Capitalism doesn't really care about why you celebrate just as long as it involves making a profit. They even make up holidays and tell you to celebrate them...some people buy into it.

I agree is something is not celebrated the way it is supposed to it loses all relevance.
It's just not the same is it?

I love the blog. Sometimes there are things I want to put down on a blog but it varies from too many different things.

Easter buns (formerly known as Hot Cross Buns) were for sale in some Australian supermarkets in January!Easter is in April and I believe Lent didn't start till mid-February. I think the holidays are becoming too commercial and any silly excuse is used!

BTW, WM got into trouble at work a few years back for calling it a Christmas tree, it is politically correct to call it a "holiday tree" now because not everyone celebrates Christmas! What is the world coming to?

So, you could leave a tree up all year round and just change the decorations. I'm sure there are people who have boxes of decorations for every season. I can't even handle Christmas.

No tradition has ever been sacred lol!

I got the message after reading it for the third time. I know what you mean. pipe cleaners, my foot!!!. Just joking.

I was wondering what the price tag was on that pipe cleaner masterpiece? Proof positive that people will buy anything.

That's not an Easter tree. That's an Easter twig!

Anything to make a buck from plastic junk made in China to commercialize an otherwise memorable holiday from our childhood. Blech.

Ok, my Grandma used to hang eggs from the tree in her front yard, but it was a little dogwood tree, so it worked for Easter, I think. This is just ridiculous.

My house looks like Ireland exploded. Green everywhere. St. Patrick's Day is my favorite holiday! :)

Easter "trees" are traditional here in Scandinavia and other Northern European countries, usually branches cut from blossom trees and decorated with wooden easter eggs...if it makes you feel any better, all the easter stuff arrived in the shops here about a week after new year!!

Haha I totally agree! Everything is all about money these days, its very sad.

Well, it seems we need to expect the bizarre anymore when it comes to the commercialization of holidays. Easter is, after all, the holiday that brought us 'peeps' aka inedible candy.

Has anyone noticed that in September, stores start having Christmas decorations up? Who are they trying to cut-to-the-chase? Well, they're winning by a landslide...

I must admit, my mom own an Easter tree, hers is not made of pipe cleaners, but it is equally silly. When I was little I loved it, needless to say, 13 years later it stays in the closet during Easter.

Hi, I'm new to your Blog, having come across it on "Blogs of Note". I don't even usually browse thru that list because I don't spend a lot of time on the computer. I like the fresh open concept of your Blog.

Ugh, seriously? That would irk the heck out of me.

When I was a kid we had little wooden ornaments - easter eggs and bunnies, carrots, etc. We used to get branches from outside and stick them in soil in a huge pot and decorate it with the ornaments. I agree that the Christmas crossover is too much - but it's a happy memory decorating those branches!

Haha wow really
It seems like a new way to make money honestly

when my boys were babies..we had a small tree out front and I decorated it with easter eggs..now the tree is huge..I would have to climb like a monkey to hang anything on it now..but I haven't decorated for holidays in a while..it all seems so commercial and my boys are grown and hairy men!

Ha! That is just too funny! They gotta find a way to make money. And the sad thing is, someone will buy that!...probably my mom.

I'm kind of two minds as far as decorating for Easter. It's nice to see the Easter trees outside, especially when the winter has gone on and on and on. As a teacher, the kids loved it when I would decorate the room for any holiday (these were tough middle school children who loved to receive color sheets, even.)

Now, with a little grandlove, I have even started getting ready for Easter. He's not even a year old, so I have reined in the buying for his Easter enjoyment. I remember have Easter egg hunts with my brother and when my daughter was little we built the nest for the Easter bunny with wildflowers outside. We have family traditions and try not to let commericialization over take our family's values.

the Germans decorate Easter trees. when my friends were stationed in Germany they came down to visit and brought me two dozen beautifully decorated hollow eggs that had strings or ribbons on them so they could be hung on the tree. i also bought some beautiful wooden and lace hanging ornaments when i went up there to visit them. Easter trees are very much a tradition in Germany and eastern European countries.

i have seen eggs, plastic and otherwise, hanging from bare branches of trees, both inside and outside. time was when i did this with my class in school and i may resurrect the tradition for the little girl. but pastel trees shaped like christmas feather trees- not okay! that said, i am a diehard traditionalist when it comes to holidays. it's very difficult for me to change. the more important the holiday, the more i resist! thank you for your comments and your stories!

We have created Easter Egg trees since my 'girl' was little - blown and colored eggs on a bare tree branch. If lucky the branch has buds which open over time.

When I was a child we decorated hard boiled eggs then we would go to the top of a grassy slope for the great "Egg Roll Off". It was great fun all the eggs rolling down the slope - no prizes for winning - just the fun of it. We all hark back to simplier times but it couldn't have cost my folks more than a few pennies....

Not anymore. People don't know the true meaning of holidays anymore nor do they know where and when the holiday originated. Sad but true. I remember once in school we had a valentine's day tree.

LOL!!! An Easter Tree?? Its preposterous - never seen or heard anything like it til now.

I really enjoy reading your blog btw. Keep it going ;o)
