a walk in the rain

there's an odd sense of contentment when you're under an umbrella in the rain. like a movable roof over your head, the umbrella holds off the elements, sheltering you from the relentless drizzle. inside you stay wide-eyed and dry as all outside drips and drops and becomes soggy with rain.

as i walk, i think: the little girl should have an umbrella. something tiny and sun-yellow. even though she's still small, i want her to feel this power over the weather, this snug-and-dry content feeling of walking through the rain.

Walking in the rain is with an umbrella is common sight in many countries. When it rains the roads are packed with different colorful umbrellas.

Oh but doesn't it feel like the biggest betrayal when it pops inside out and drags you around the place? :)

Thanks for the imagery.

i love the rains but with all due respect to your posting with the child. the beauty of nature is when you surrender to it and be one with.

Rain can certainly be soothing. Fun, too. Remember Gene Kelly dancing in the rain?

So, I'm imagining how you must have tucked the umbrella handle under your chin or in your armpit so that your hands were free to snap the photo. Amusing image!

I don't own an umbrella. I much prefer to let the rain fall down on me. I think there is something equally wonderful in that sensation.

The little girl here loves having her own umbrella. She'll be five soon. I enjoy your blog and look forward to it every evening.

I love the serenity sound of rain, especially when I'm sitting in my truck. It sounds like rain drops on a tin roof. My niece and nephew enjoy wearing their rainboot's in the rain. Being able to walk through puddles and not getting their feet wet is an extreme joy for them. I look forward to your next post.

Ahh. I love the image of the big sky with lots of misty rain in contrast to the little sunny yellow umbrella. :)

So happy spring has sprung!

I love seeing little kids with brightly colored umbrellas and matching rain boots. Spring perfection.

You know, I still can't figure out the proper way to use an umbrella. I still get wet. Maybe someone could teach a class on umbrella etiquette - that would be quite helpful.

In the Netherlands we need our umbrellas lots of times, except when the wind blows them apart. There's nothing sadder than a broken and abandoned umbrella in the gutter.

Yes, it's that great snuggly feeling and hearing the pitter-patter, kind of like being the Morton Salt Girl. :-)

an umbrella and wellies/rainboots to splash around the puddles in. Love it!

And there is a strange pleasure of fulfillment when you put the umbrella down and allow the raindrops to wet your hair.

When I was a little girl, even now, often actually, I feel that feeling you just described. That private, safe spot that surrounds you from the element which excites you and fills you with wonder. Something safe to hide from... the rain.
I have just started blogging and Yours is actually the first one I have read. Your appreciation and insight is refreshing and motivating.

I love your picture of the rain, it's really beautiful how it looks like sparks are bursting out of the ends of the umbrella.

I love a good walk in the rain. It has a sort of cleansing feeling to it when you walk without an umbrella though. Kinda reminds me of when I was a kid and didn't mind getting wet right the way through.
