march into march

here comes march, the much hoped for end to winter in new england. not everyone feels this way - skiiers and snowmobilers pray for one more big snowstorm in march and they sometimes get it. but march is the best of both winter and spring worlds since the snow often is light and fluffy and melts easily with warmer temperatures. mud makes an appearance in march, so much of it that some call this month mud season. sap buckets appear as maples stir from winter dormancy. now is when i start hoping for pussy willows by the side of the road - and snow fleas in the melting snowbanks.

Hello, I'm a new reader of your blog and would just like to let you know how lovely it is. You take beautiful pictures, so thank you for sharing.

March has started off brilliantly in South East England, the sun hasn't stopped shining and it really feels like Spring has sprung!

Reading your detailed explanation of the last snow in march makes me sad for some reason.
1.I've only seen snow once in my whole life.
2. It seems sad it has to go away = (
But the picture is actually quite beautiful and admiring it makes me feel a bit better haha.
I wish it would snow more here though, I've only ever built one snow man evar! Well more like a snow family =P

It's wonderful...the way how different places have their unique natural changes in different seasons. March is indeed beautiful with the ending of winter and the welcome arrival of spring or summer in some places.

. . . and crocuses peeking through the snow . . . and the sound of melting, flowing streams . . . and the songs of returning birds . . . and going to work with the sun coming up . . . and coming home before sunset . . . I love March, too. Just when you think you can't do any more winter, March will give you a day of sun and 45 degrees and the very next day 6 inches of snow! It's good to be alive . . .

i love this time of late winter, too...saw a few green sprouts poking out here and there on my walk today...but we have NO snow, and it's balmy. even another big snow will be fine; it wont last too long...

Thank you for reminding me of pussy willows! My grandson has a favorite story about pussy willows, and I promised myself to look for some if spring ever arrived (which is hasn't quite yet, but will soon I'm sure).

Hi,
I just stumbled on your blog and love it. March is that wonderful time where we can go from one season to the next - it's a wonderful month as we prepare our mind, bidy and spirt for re-growth.

Your picture captured that wonderful energy.

Blessings,
Ophelia

What beautiful pictures you take!
I especially like close ups for their simplicity, detail, and intricate beauty. This image reminds me of all the delicate ice crystals I often see in winter.
