anticipation

bright light in the morning these march days and the air is smelling cool and earthy. deep in the woods, huge flocks of crows have been gathering at dawn, cawing and calling to each other, raucous enough to be heard even through still closed windows. the wood pile shrinks. the snow recedes. pine cones fall. the equinox looms. and finally this morning, i go outside without boots.

I had a day like that recently. It was the first day in months that I could go into my backyard without boots. Lovely.

I am glad I came across your blog and now I wait for your posts. I like the way you observe the things around you and put them into words almost perfectly.

Yum. Sounds like the Northwest United States on your end of the world. I share your excitement for the seasonal change. Spring is my most treasured transition. It makes every year feel like a new possibilty; that change is possible. Starting on the equinox I am going to begin a project which I will blog about called 'ZEN'S Garden'. Your blog reminds me of my own feelings and connection with nature, and it would be nice to know that you are following :]. Keep the pictures coming, they are truely a beautiful thing.

Yesterday it was early, cool spring with sun. Today it's late, cold winter with snow. Yep, that's spring in Eastern Oregon. I'm sure you know what I'm talking about.

But, just as you described, the real indication of spring are the type birds we begin seeing and their behavior. Today I noticed Red Winged Blackbirds at our feeders. And I photographed a big Red Robin in an apple tree. These are two signs of spring around my neck of the woods.

It still amazes me, you are busy shedding the layers in anticipation for the summer, while I add on the layers in anticipation for the winter...

I found your blog by chance...guess it was serendipitous. I love the simplicity and beauty of it. I can always use a calm spot in my day. I'm just starting my blog about working in Yellowstone Park for 6 months...will be leaving Ohio in April. I hope to have a lot of fun pictures. I will follow you on my trip.

I like going out without boots for the first time of the season. It's always a nice feeling. We had a surprise here, tho. After one week of wearing shoes and light jackets, mother nature sent us 40cm of snow...
