line up

new this summer - i've wanted one for a long time. i love putting the laundry out in the morning, love that it dries so quickly, love the smell and feel of the clothes, and love that i'm saving money and consuming less energy. see? it doesn't take much to make me happy!

Hanging out laundry is so relaxing. I get my best ideas for paintings and poetry while I am hanging out the wash.

And the laundry smells so good, doesn't it? I love to put clean sheets on my bed when they've been dried outside.

There is nothing quite like the smell of sunshine on sheets/pillow cases that have been hung outside to dry!! I really miss that but we aren't allowed outdoor clothes lines in our complex. Enjoy :)

The simple joys make every day a pleasure! Just like you, one of my biggest thrills this week was hanging out laundry in the sunshine and breeze. It also sort of tickles me that some of our most "modern" ideas go way back--from using individual white boards with children to get instant feedback (hornbooks and slates) to using solar energy to dry our clothes. My grandparents were wiser than they even knew.

Since most of Australia does not have snow in winter, most suburban and country Australians dry their clothes in the sun. In fact, the rotary clothes hoist is an Australian invention.

Lynne: i found your australian rotary clotheslines online! it was the inspiration for mine! like yours, this one comes out of the ground and closes up for storage. i don't think i'll put it away til the first real snowstorm though. frozen clothes in early winter would thaw out once they came into the heat of the house, right? :-)

in switzerland, those lines are seen almost everywhere. I personally don't even have a dryer. Love the smell, too. By the way, here lived also a founder of a rotary drier system called "STEWI"
