keepsake

every year, during the summer, i spend some time at the ocean. every year, as i walk, i comb the beach, looking for the perfect rock. every year, i bring one home. one only. and every year, every day, i carry it in my pocket until i can get back there again.

this is last year's rock. i'm leaving it behind as i go off to find a new one.

This is a wonderful tradition, a small, smooth reminder of something you love to do. :)

Thank you for the reminder about appreciating simple things, about the importance of touch stones, and the contentedness hidden in traditions. You have a gift for showing us the extraordinary in the ordinary. Thank you for sharing that marvelous gift. Have a wonderful trip!

What a lovely tradition. I would probably lose the rock before he could return.

I would be greedy and not return the rock and find another one to add to it. But that's how I am.

nora and tabor, i keep each rock, i don't return it to the beach the following year. at least i never have. but maybe that's not a bad thing to do...lladybugg, i think the rock gets even smoother during the course of the winter. i rub it a lot while it's in my pocket! Laura, thank you for your kind words. as someone who often doubts the worth of these postings, they mean a great deal to me.

and susan t. landry, my family will be around most of the time i'm here. my hope is that we'll be so busy catching up with our lives over the last year that there won't be time for anything else! except pictures, maybe!

Hi, I've just arrived on a blog hop. I also like discovering stones. They seem to jump up and say 'I'm the one', don't they? Here's a link to one we saw on a beach earlier on this year. That beach had hundreds of stones with faces looking up at us.

What a wonderful idea, enjoying it, then giving it back to The Cosmos, to be part of its natural cycle. You're so full of good ideas!
