as good as new

for reasons i won't go into, i need a large amount of shiny pennies. now, pennies i have - and lots of them. but they are old and worn and grimy with age. the bank could not supply me with the shiny new coins i need. in desperation, i set about to clean my old penny collection. lemon juice and salt in a jar with the pennies, shaken a few times, and rinsed. and voilĂ ! the smell emanating from the jar upon opening is no longer lemony and actually smells a lot like a bad egg. but look how shiny my pennies are now!

A coke will do the same. Nice color.

I like to save the old pennies

Thanks for the cleaning tip! The pennies look fresh from the mint.

We always used coke - its frightening when you think what it must do to your insides.

So, do tell, what are you doing with all those "shiny" pennies?

Nellie Dee: let's just say the pennies are for a present...

Jenny Schouten Short & madamebutterfly: i have another smaller batch soaking in coke now. thanks for the tip!

Thanks for telling me that trick. I have lots of coins that I saved up that need cleaning.
