perhaps i just haven't had time to notice, but this is the first monarch butterfly i've seen this year. on this overcast, cool morning, he was lingering in the yard, flying clumsily from flower to flower, and i wondered if he had only recently emerged from his chrysalis. i watched him for a long while, striking orange against the green leaves and golden flowers, until he flitted upward and flew away.

A friend of mine likes to think of butterflies as dearly missed loved ones coming down from heaven to say hello.
May you see more of these beautiful creatures.

Tara: thanks for that lovely thought. now i hope i see more, too!
what a great picture!!
Beautiful picture! I love Tara's comment too, I'll have to try and remember that come next butterfly season...
What a gorgeous photo! Butterflies are lovely creatures that inspire me with thoughts of God's ability to transform us all into something beautiful.
Monarchs have been in short supply around here, too. I went out to photograph one, but it stayed on the opposite side of each flower it visited. Sigh.
Hi...I've been following your blog. It's a breath of fresh air, really.
Thanks for always sharing.:P

Beautiful words and photograph -- perfection!
It always makes me happy to see a butterfly. They are so frivolous looking, like Marilyn Monroe and just as valuable.
That is really, really pretty. i love butterflies. there are a few in my backyard that are huge!
And Tara's thought was really sweet too.
Pretty flowers! Seems your garden was so healthy. Wish I can have a healthy garden too. I'm been looking for interesting topic as this. Looking forward for your next post. Keep posting!
