lighter later

on my way home, five-thirty pm, and it's still light enough to see down the valley and get off a grainy photo. in five weeks, daylight savings time will be back. i know it's way too soon, i know winter is not even close to being over, but i still find myself dreaming of spring. already.

Lighter later is good, I'm waiting for lighter earlier to enhance the morning walk!

I'm dreaming of SNOW! The mid-Atlantic is getting all our beautiful snow today, and I want it back!

Me, too. It's been a somewhat mild winter (and my WAY positive attitude about winter this year--who saw that coming?--has really helped), but I'll be happy to be able to ride my bike again.

It is always exciting to notice that the daylight is extending. Some people like that it gets light earlier, but like you, I'm excited about it being lighter later.

I love spring. At least the waits not that long. A few more months.

Great photo! After getting over 2 feet of snow here in VA I am beyond ready for spring....we don't usually get winter like this here and so far this year has been crazy....I like your blog!

Love the photo. I know what you mean about wishing for spring to get here a little sooner. It is nice, though to have a little extra light every day. It gives our spirit hope that spring is really on the way. After all, it's on the calendar!

I forgot to mention that I've been looking through seed catalogues and checking out flower bulbs online. I love flowers throughout the spring, summer and fall. Can't wait to start planting some seeds and bulbs!

Hi Chris,I just stumbled upon your blog, I love your photos.(I enjoy taking photos too).
You are so lucky you get snow, it makes for great photos!
Here in South Aus. it is very hot and one can only take good photos, very early morning or late evening.

Honestly, I always liked it when it got dark early... Back in school (some years ago at this point) I always felt like, "Ugh, god, it's late, gotta go to bed soon... Oh wait, no it's not!"

Kind of like how on Christmas, I like to save the stockings for last, so that just when you feel like there's nothing left, "Oh wait, there is!"

Course, I've always had trouble with brightness bothering my eyes...

@Kairen be careful what you wish for! :D

happy to see the photo was a hit. i was a little concerned that there might not be enough good light. it sounds like spring is on its way for some of you - seeds, mild weather, sap buckets(!) - but it's still winter (30°, 2' of snow) in other places. including here. then there's Love 'n Light who's having summer!! no, i can't write poetry...it always sounds too sappy! Blissed-Out Grandma, i love the extra light in the morning, too but only as the snow melts and the weather gets warmer. Matt Conlon, there's something cozy about it getting dark earlier in the winter - but for me it gets old around mid-january! thanks everyone, for encouraging comments and for the "followers"!!

I can certainly understand that!

I think for me, the darkness symbolizes not just the end of the day, but also the end of the period of time that is not entirely my own... I work days, so the majority of the time, when it's light out, I'm on someoene else's time.

When it's dark, it's my time. It's somehow comforting for me. That is of course, if I'm inside where it's warm. :D

Great view!!! I love snow! I am not a fan of time change and personally wish they would stick to one or the other...

Thanks for sharing!

Me too... I loved having snowy winter days, when schools closed for students, but teachers get to go in for a workday. I am so ready for spring. Long daylight hours. My skin needs the sunshine!
