bah humbug 2010

today, october 2nd, the first day it's been chilly enough here to refer to the day as a typical fall one, i turn a corner in a large department store to view this: christmas 2010.

in a "normal" year, i notice holiday magazines have hit the newsstand by columbus day weekend. close to halloween, i typically hear the first too-early holiday music emanating from the tv in the living room as it plays in the background for a christmas promotion. but to have christmas this blatantly in my sight at the beginning of october is just wrong!

by my calculations, this display will be out for one-quarter of the year. at least they waited until i had a sweatshirt and socks on before they put it up.

It has finally become autumn here also. I absolutely hate the rush to Christmas! And I don't like the fact that Halloween is getting to be the "BIG" holiday. But what really makes me mad? I wonder,...does anyone remember Thanksgiving?

middle child: i am not a fan of halloween either - but thanksgiving is our favorite holiday around here. i think it's because the day is so quiet and peaceful and homey. and thanksgiving night is my favorite night of the year - the calm before the frantic christmas rush begins!

I SO agree with you!! ALL the stores here in Texas are already displaying CHRISTMAS!! Now I LOVE Christmas.....but THANKSGIVING is a real holiday, too! NOT just a prelude!

We are so in need of stimulation and reward and we have absolutely NO patience about life.

Chris - I totally agree. There's nothing "bah humbug" about it... when they bust out the Christmas decorations this early in the season it takes away the excitement and the magic surrounding the holiday. (For those of us who participate in it...)

I do love Halloween and don't mind it being a big holiday. I loved dressing up as a kid, loved spooky stories. I just love autumn in general!

I was greeted by a similair stand in my local supermarket this morning and was quite surprised - normally I don't notice Christmas until Halloween is over...

Once upon time Christmas didn't show up until after the Turkey was off the table... sigh. It has really changed my take on the whole holiday season.

If I were Queen, there would be a decree that all Christmas displays, decor, music and other manifestations of the upcoming holiday will forthwith be forbidden until the Thanksgiving turkey leftovers have all be consumed. And thus is will be so. amen.

It's scandalous, that's what it is, simply scandalous.
