the children.

the cnn breaking news feeds started midmorning and kept coming into my iphone and onto my feed reader. shooting in connecticut. elementary school. teachers shot. students killed. i knew knowing the details would only upset me, and i had students yet to teach. on the drive home, i got caught up with the horrific news. and when i walked into my bedroom and spotted this, the neatly folded scarf i had changed my mind about and decided not to wear today, i broke down. all those children.

So profoundly sad. What kind of inner torment could lead to this? How can it be discovered and alleviated before it reaches these proportions? What else can we do to avoid these frightening eruptions of violence, especially since it destroys the innocent?

Big hugs, Chris. Right now I think the whole nation is in need of a big hug and a shoulder to cry on.

Chris. I am so sorry for your tears. We all feel so helpless and so strange. This is not the world we believed we live in. This is not the world we want. Your work with young children makes this really harder for you, I imagine. May I send you a few stardust bursts of holiday peace.

I'm challenging all my readers to do Random Acts of Kindness and write Random Letters of Love in memory of all of the Sandy Hook victims. http://lettingthewordsescape.blogspot.com/2012/12/making-sense-of-senseless.html Perhaps one day, if we each do two RAKs or RLoLs for each Random Act of Violence, we might one day have twice the amount of Kindness and Love in the world than violence.
