My grandpa, who is in Heaven now, used to plant pansies because he felt like they were little smiling faces looking at him. I can't look at a pansy without thinking of him. In NH they are one of the first colors of spring and last colors of fall, part of our New England strategy to make sure the long winter doesn't whiten our minds. : )
