new year in spring

when my dad was alive, if he was asked his age, he used to say he was older than dirt. this phrase came to me last night as i was adding a forty pound bag of garden soil to the perennial bed, and it dawned on me that this may well be the dirt that i am older than.

  1. Happy Birthday from the compost pile!

The nice part of aging is that there's always someone older (and younger) than you. I have no idea how old I am anymore. I still have this inner sense of 25... 35...

Have a terrific day! Love from your (old) friend, Gretchen

  2. That's funny. My dad says the very same thing. I discovered your blog recently and I really enjoy it. It leaves me feeling relaxed and peaceful each time I read your posts.

  3. That's funny. There are days when I think I'm older than dirt too, but now that I've seen yours, I'm thinking I might be more like a spring chicken.

  4. When I was a kid I read a book in which an old woman said: "I am as old as my tongue and a little bit older than my teeth." I have always loved that but have not yet been game to use it!

there's this saying by pinoy's "bata ka pa." I don't want to think about it yet but it's sure about getting old?

  10. Hey it looks like footsteps :) Maybe you walked many miles with the dirt already. And many more to go!

  12. I completely understand this. My grandfather said many things that now randomly pop in my head during the most mundane tasks. Nice to know I am not alone hahaha
