out of the blue

overnight, a surprise - it snowed! a thin blanket covering the green grasses, pale clumps on tree buds, white mantles over blooming azaleas. all my daffodils are bent down under the weight of the heavy wet snow. this snow melts fast, though, and will soon be gone. here it clusters and drips off a forsythia branch, already in bloom. more snow showers tonight and perhaps tomorrow. ah, me. here's to new england springs!

  4. God bless you! Here in SC, we can't decided if it's still spring for if it's now summer. I grew up in Northern PA and I highly dislike the snow...so whether you like it or not, I feel sorry for you! :D That is a beautiful picture, though.

  14. We just moved out of New Hampshire but I have quite a few friends who were surprised by the snow prediction. Now that we live in Seattle snow will be a distant memory... What am I to do with all my lovely winter jackets? I guess visit often!

Sounds amazing, in South Africa only a few places have snow and I have not been to these places yet. Now I have a rosy and pleasant idea of how it will be.

  16. You never know what's coming next in the spring. We got below freezing, but no snow. Ah, spring. I hope all your plants are ok!

I love the nature pictures you produce. I live in Dallas, TX, a locale known far more for it's bland, cookie-cutter landscaping and pollution than for anything resembling a natural environment. Soon, soon, I'll be able to leave this state and move back to New Zealand. =P

  18. Happy Spring to you!

Although I love the snow, there's a time and a place for it, and its definitely not in April. What ever happened to April showers bringing May flowers?

    :) Great blog.

  21. That is a lovely photo. Your blog came up in the "Blogs of Note" section as I was browsing through them. I'm new to blogging but am very excited about it :) I love your quote from Thoreau in your About Me section. Have you read Walden? And I SO concur on your entry about the cube tissue boxes...quite frustrating :P

  22. now, a week later, spring has returned with no more signs of snow. i sure hope that's the end of it for us!

kisma, i planted a bit this week. shade perennials that were in bloom elsewhere and a few pansies. and angie, so far, they're doing fine!

LESAPEA MUSINGS, i just can't imagine hot anywhere right now. after a day of open windows, tonight i'm freezing again! Innocentia, also odd to think of snow in africa, but i guess it makes sense that there could be some in the southern part.

Disco and Dexter, the last time i looked - and honestly, it was about two weeks ago, the mayflowers were in big fat bud - so i'm betting they've bloomed by now. hmmm, tomorrow's post, perhaps! (does that make them april flowers???)

Anne and nightengale, i'll try to keep you tuned into weather in NH now that you've moved away. :-) but you know how fickle weather here can be!

Mar-Cee-Ah, so glad you like this spot. thank you for your visit. you too, Elephant and yes, i read walden a looong time ago!

thanks, all, for your kind words and comments!
